Two Victories over the Philistines

(2 Samuel 5:17-25)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
8When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went out to meet them.8When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. But David heard of it and went out against them.8When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up in search of David; and David heard of it and went out against them.8And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.8When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of David; when David heard of this, he went out to face them.
9Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim;9Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the Valley of Rephaim.9Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.9And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.9Now the Philistines had come and raided in the Valley of Rephaim,
10so David inquired of God: "Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?" The LORD answered him, "Go, I will deliver them into your hands."10And David inquired of God, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you give them into my hand?” And the LORD said to him, “Go up, and I will give them into your hand.”10David inquired of God, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You give them into my hand?" Then the LORD said to him, "Go up, for I will give them into your hand."10And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.10so David inquired of God, "Should I go to war against the Philistines? Will You hand them over to me?" The LORD replied, "Go, and I will hand them over to you."
11So David and his men went up to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, "As waters break out, God has broken out against my enemies by my hand." So that place was called Baal Perazim.11And he went up to Baal-perazim, and David struck them down there. And David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like a bursting flood.” Therefore the name of that place is called Baal-perazim.11So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there; and David said, "God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters." Therefore they named that place Baal-perazim.11So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.11So the Israelites went up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated the Philistines there. Then David said, "Like a bursting flood, God has used me to burst out against my enemies." Therefore, they named that place the Lord Bursts Out.

12The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, and David gave orders to burn them in the fire.12And they left their gods there, and David gave command, and they were burned.12They abandoned their gods there; so David gave the order and they were burned with fire.12And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.12The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David ordered that they be burned in the fire.
13Once more the Philistines raided the valley;13And the Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.13The Philistines made yet another raid in the valley.13And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.13Once again the Philistines raided in the valley.
14so David inquired of God again, and God answered him, "Do not go directly after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the poplar trees.14And when David again inquired of God, God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; go around and come against them opposite the balsam trees.14David inquired again of God, and God said to him, "You shall not go up after them; circle around behind them and come at them in front of the balsam trees.14Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.14So David again inquired of God, and God answered him, "Do not pursue them directly. Circle around them and attack them opposite the balsam trees.
15As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move out to battle, because that will mean God has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army."15And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike down the army of the Philistines.”15"It shall be when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God will have gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines."15And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.15When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then march out to battle, for God will have marched out ahead of you to attack the camp of the Philistines."
16So David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army, all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.16And David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.16David did just as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even as far as Gezer.16David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.16So David did exactly as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.
17So David's fame spread throughout every land, and the LORD made all the nations fear him.17And the fame of David went out into all lands, and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.17Then the fame of David went out into all the lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him on all the nations.17And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.17Then David's fame spread throughout the lands, and the LORD caused all the nations to be terrified of him.
