God's Covenant with David

(2 Samuel 7:1-17)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, "Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under a tent."1Now when David lived in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, “Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under a tent.”1And it came about, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, "Behold, I am dwelling in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under curtains."1Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.1When David had settled into his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, "Look! I am living in a cedar house while the ark of the LORD's covenant is under tent curtains."
Nathan replied to David, "Whatever you have in mind, do it, for God is with you."2And Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.”2Then Nathan said to David, "Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you."2Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.2So Nathan told David, "Do all that is on your heart, for God is with you."
But that night the word of God came to Nathan, saying:3But that same night the word of the LORD came to Nathan,3It came about the same night that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,3And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,3But that night the word of God came to Nathan: "
"Go and tell my servant David, 'This is what the LORD says: You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in.4“Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD: It is not you who will build me a house to dwell in.4"Go and tell David My servant, 'Thus says the LORD, "You shall not build a house for Me to dwell in;4Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:4Go to David My servant and say, 'This is what the LORD says: You are not the one to build Me a house to dwell in.

I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt to this day. I have moved from one tent site to another, from one dwelling place to another.5For I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up Israel to this day, but I have gone from tent to tent and from dwelling to dwelling.5for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel to this day, but I have gone from tent to tent and from one dwelling place to another.5For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.5From the time I brought Israel out of Egypt until today I have not lived in a house; instead, I have moved from tent to tent and from tabernacle to tabernacle.
Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their leaders whom I commanded to shepherd my people, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?"'6In all places where I have moved with all Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people, saying, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?”’6"In all places where I have walked with all Israel, have I spoken a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people, saying, 'Why have you not built for Me a house of cedar?'"'6Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?6In all My travels throughout Israel, have I ever spoken a word to even one of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people, asking: Why haven't you built Me a house of cedar?"
"Now then, tell my servant David, 'This is what the LORD Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.7Now, therefore, thus shall you say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people Israel,7"Now, therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, "I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be leader over My people Israel.7Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:7Now this is what you will say to My servant David: 'This is what the LORD of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture and from following the sheep to be ruler over My people Israel.
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name like the names of the greatest men on earth.8and I have been with you wherever you have gone and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a name, like the name of the great ones of the earth.8"I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make you a name like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.8And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.8I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. I will make a name for you like that of the greatest in the land.
And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning9And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. And violent men shall waste them no more, as formerly,9"I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and not be moved again; and the wicked will not waste them anymore as formerly,9Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,9I will establish a place for My people Israel and plant them, so that they may live there and not be disturbed again. Evildoers will not continue to oppress them as they formerly have

and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies. "'I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you:10from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the LORD will build you a house.10even from the day that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel. And I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I tell you that the LORD will build a house for you.10And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.10ever since the day I ordered judges to be over My people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies." Furthermore, I declare to you that the LORD Himself will build a house for you.
When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.11When your days are fulfilled to walk with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.11"When your days are fulfilled that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up one of your descendants after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom.11And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.11When your time comes to be with your fathers, I will raise up after you your descendant, who is one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.
He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.12He shall build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.12"He shall build for Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.12He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.12He will build a house for Me, and I will establish his throne forever.
I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor.13I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from him who was before you,13"I will be his father and he shall be My son; and I will not take My lovingkindness away from him, as I took it from him who was before you.13I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:13I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to Me. I will not take away My faithful love from him as I took it from the one who was before you.
I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever.'"14but I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.’”14"But I will settle him in My house and in My kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever."'"14But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.14I will appoint him over My house and My kingdom forever, and his throne will be established forever.'"

David's Prayer

(2 Samuel 7:18-29)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: "Who am I, LORD God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?16Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and said, “Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far?16Then David the king went in and sat before the LORD and said, "Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far?16And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?16Then King David went in, sat in the LORD's presence, and said, Who am I, LORD God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far?
And as if this were not enough in your sight, my God, you have spoken about the future of the house of your servant. You, LORD God, have looked on me as though I were the most exalted of men.17And this was a small thing in your eyes, O God. You have also spoken of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and have shown me future generations, O LORD God!17"This was a small thing in Your eyes, O God; but You have spoken of Your servant's house for a great while to come, and have regarded me according to the standard of a man of high degree, O LORD God.17And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.17This was a little thing to You, God, for You have spoken about Your servant's house in the distant future. You regard me as a man of distinction, LORD God.
"What more can David say to you for honoring your servant? For you know your servant,18And what more can David say to you for honoring your servant? For you know your servant.18"What more can David still say to You concerning the honor bestowed on Your servant? For You know Your servant.18What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.18What more can David say to You for honoring Your servant? You know Your servant.
LORD. For the sake of your servant and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made known all these great promises.19For your servant’s sake, O LORD, and according to your own heart, you have done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.19"O LORD, for Your servant's sake, and according to Your own heart, You have wrought all this greatness, to make known all these great things.19O LORD, for thy servant's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.19 LORD, You have done all this greatness, making known all these great promises because of Your servant and according to Your will.

"There is no one like you, LORD, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.20There is none like you, O LORD, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.20"O LORD, there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.20O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.20 LORD, there is no one like You, and there is no God besides You, as all we have heard confirms.
And who is like your people Israel--the one nation on earth whose God went out to redeem a people for himself, and to make a name for yourself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt?21And who is like your people Israel, the one nation on earth whom God went to redeem to be his people, making for yourself a name for great and awesome things, in driving out nations before your people whom you redeemed from Egypt?21"And what one nation in the earth is like Your people Israel, whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make You a name by great and terrible things, in driving out nations from before Your people, whom You redeemed out of Egypt?21And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?21And who is like Your people Israel? God, You came to one nation on earth to redeem a people for Yourself, to make a name for Yourself through great and awesome works by driving out nations before Your people You redeemed from Egypt.
You made your people Israel your very own forever, and you, LORD, have become their God.22And you made your people Israel to be your people forever, and you, O LORD, became their God.22"For Your people Israel You made Your own people forever, and You, O LORD, became their God.22For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God.22You made Your people Israel Your own people forever, and You, LORD, have become their God.
"And now, LORD, let the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house be established forever. Do as you promised,23And now, O LORD, let the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house be established forever, and do as you have spoken,23"Now, O LORD, let the word that You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house be established forever, and do as You have spoken.23Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.23Now, LORD, let the word that You have spoken concerning Your servant and his house be confirmed forever, and do as You have promised.
so that it will be established and that your name will be great forever. Then people will say, 'The LORD Almighty, the God over Israel, is Israel's God!' And the house of your servant David will be established before you.24and your name will be established and magnified forever, saying, ‘The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, is Israel’s God,’ and the house of your servant David will be established before you.24"Let Your name be established and magnified forever, saying, 'The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel; and the house of David Your servant is established before You.'24Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.24Let Your name be confirmed and magnified forever in the saying, "Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel, is God over Israel." May the house of Your servant David be established before You.

"You, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build a house for him. So your servant has found courage to pray to you.25For you, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build a house for him. Therefore your servant has found courage to pray before you.25"For You, O my God, have revealed to Your servant that You will build for him a house; therefore Your servant has found courage to pray before You.25For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.25Since You, my God, have revealed to Your servant that You will build him a house, Your servant has found courage to pray in Your presence.
You, LORD, are God! You have promised these good things to your servant.26And now, O LORD, you are God, and you have promised this good thing to your servant.26"Now, O LORD, You are God, and have promised this good thing to Your servant.26And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:26Yahweh, You indeed are God, and You have promised this good thing to Your servant.
Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, LORD, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever."27Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you, for it is you, O LORD, who have blessed, and it is blessed forever.”27"And now it has pleased You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You; for You, O LORD, have blessed, and it is blessed forever."27Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever.27So now, You have been pleased to bless Your servant's house that it may continue before You forever. For You, LORD, have blessed it, and it is blessed forever.
