The Twelve Captains for Each Month

1This is the list of the Israelites--heads of families, commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and their officers, who served the king in all that concerned the army divisions that were on duty month by month throughout the year. Each division consisted of 24,000 men.1This is the number of the people of Israel, the heads of fathers’ houses, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and their officers who served the king in all matters concerning the divisions that came and went, month after month throughout the year, each division numbering 24,000:1Now this is the enumeration of the sons of Israel, the heads of fathers' households, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the king in all the affairs of the divisions which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, each division numbering 24,000:1Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.1This is the list of the Israelites, the heads of families, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, and their officers who served the king in every matter to do with the divisions that were on rotated military duty each month throughout the year. There were 24,000 in each division:
2In charge of the first division, for the first month, was Jashobeam son of Zabdiel. 3He was a descendant of Perez and chief of all the army officers for the first month.3He was a descendant of Perez and was chief of all the commanders. He served for the first month.3He was from the sons of Perez, and was chief of all the commanders of the army for the first month.3Of the children of Perez was the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.3He was a descendant of Perez and chief of all the army commanders for the first month.
4In charge of the division for the second month was Dodai the Ahohite; Mikloth was the leader of his division. There were 24,000 men in his division.4Dodai the Ahohite was in charge of the division of the second month; in his division were 24,000.4Dodai the Ahohite and his division had charge of the division for the second month, Mikloth being the chief officer; and in his division were 24,000.4And over the course of the second month was Dodai an Ahohite, and of his course was Mikloth also the ruler: in his course likewise were twenty and four thousand.4Dodai the Ahohite was in charge of the division for the second month, and Mikloth was the leader; 24,000 were in his division.

5The third army commander, for the third month, was Benaiah son of Jehoiada the priest. 6This was the Benaiah who was a mighty warrior among the Thirty and was over the Thirty. His son Ammizabad was in charge of his division.6This is the Benaiah who was a mighty man of the thirty and in command of the thirty; Ammizabad his son was in charge of his division.6This Benaiah was the mighty man of the thirty, and had charge of thirty; and over his division was Ammizabad his son.6This is that Benaiah, who was mighty among the thirty, and above the thirty: and in his course was Ammizabad his son.6This Benaiah was a mighty man among the Thirty and over the Thirty, and his son Ammizabad was in charge of his division.
7The fourth, for the fourth month, was Asahel the brother of Joab; his son Zebadiah was his successor. 9The sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite. 10The seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, an Ephraimite. 11The eighth, for the eighth month, was Sibbekai the Hushathite, a Zerahite. 13The tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netophathite, a Zerahite. The Leaders of the Twelve Tribes

24Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. God's wrath came on Israel on account of this numbering, and the number was not entered in the book of the annals of King David.24Joab the son of Zeruiah began to count, but did not finish. Jonathan son of Uzziah was in charge of the storehouses in the outlying districts, in the towns, the villages and the watchtowers.25Over the king’s treasuries was Azmaveth the son of Adiel; and over the treasuries in the country, in the cities, in the villages, and in the towers, was Jonathan the son of Uzziah;25Now Azmaveth the son of Adiel had charge of the king's storehouses. 28Baal-Hanan the Gederite was in charge of the olive and sycamore-fig trees in the western foothills. Joash was in charge of the supplies of olive oil.28Over the olive and sycamore trees in the Shephelah was Baal-hanan the Gederite; and over the stores of oil was Joash.28Baal-hanan the Gederite had charge of the olive and sycamore trees in the Shephelah; and Joash had charge of the stores of oil.28And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the low plains was Baalhanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash:28Baal-hanan the Gederite was in charge of the olive and sycamore trees in the Judean foothills. 29Shitrai the Sharonite was in charge of the herds grazing in Sharon. Shaphat son of Adlai was in charge of the herds in the valleys.29Over the herds that pastured in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite; over the herds in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai.29Shitrai the Sharonite had charge of the cattle which were grazing in Sharon; and Shaphat the son of Adlai had charge of the cattle in the valleys.29And over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai:29Shitrai the Sharonite was in charge of the herds that grazed in Sharon, while Shaphat son of Adlai was in charge of the herds in the valleys.
30Obil the Ishmaelite was in charge of the camels. Jehdeiah the Meronothite was in charge of the donkeys.30Over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite; and over the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite. Over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite.30Obil the Ishmaelite had charge of the camels; and Jehdeiah the Meronothite had charge of the donkeys.30Over the camels also was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite:30Obil the Ishmaelite was in charge of the camels. Jehdeiah the Meronothite was in charge of the donkeys.
31Jaziz the Hagrite was in charge of the flocks. All these were the officials in charge of King David's property.31All these were stewards of King David’s property.31Jaziz the Hagrite had charge of the flocks. All these were overseers of the property which belonged to King David.31And over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagerite. All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David's.31Jaziz the Hagrite was in charge of the flocks. All these were officials in charge of King David's property.

The Counselors

32Jonathan, David's uncle, was a counselor, a man of insight and a scribe. Jehiel son of Hakmoni took care of the king's sons.32Jonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, being a man of understanding and a scribe. He and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni attended the king’s sons.32Also Jonathan, David's uncle, was a counselor, a man of understanding, and a scribe; and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni tutored the king's sons.32Also Jonathan David's uncle was a counseller, a wise man, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons:32David's uncle Jonathan was a counselor; he was a man of understanding and a scribe. Jehiel son of Hachmoni attended the king's sons.
33Ahithophel was the king's counselor. Hushai the Arkite was the king's confidant.33Ahithophel was the king’s counselor, and Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.33Ahithophel was counselor to the king; and Hushai the Archite was the king's friend.33And Ahithophel was the king's counseller: and Hushai the Archite was the king's companion:33Ahithophel was the king's counselor. Hushai the Archite was the king's friend.
34Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada son of Benaiah and by Abiathar. Joab was the commander of the royal army.34Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar. Joab was commander of the king’s army.34Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar succeeded Ahithophel; and Joab was the commander of the king's army.34And after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the general of the king's army was Joab.34After Ahithophel came Jehoiada son of Benaiah, then Abiathar. Joab was the commander of the king's army.
