The Resurrection of Christ

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand.1Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand,1Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand,1Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;1Now brothers, I want to clarify for you the gospel I proclaimed to you; you received it and have taken your stand on it.
2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.2and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.2by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.2You are also saved by it, if you hold to the message I proclaimed to you--unless you believed for no purpose.
3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,3For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,3For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;3For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,4and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:4that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

5and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve.5and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.5and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.5And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:5and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve.
6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.6Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.6After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;6After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.6Then He appeared to over 500 brothers at one time; most of them are still alive, but some have fallen asleep.
7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles,7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.7then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles;7After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.7Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.8Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.8and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.8And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.8Last of all, as to one abnormally born, He also appeared to me.
9For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.9For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.9For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.9For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.9For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.10But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.10But by God's grace I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not ineffective. However, I worked more than any of them, yet not I, but God's grace that was with me.
11Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.11Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.11Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.11Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.11Therefore, whether it is I or they, so we proclaim and so you have believed.

The Resurrection of the Dead

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
12But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?12Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?12Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?12Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?12Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say, "There is no resurrection of the dead"?
13If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.13But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.13But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised;13But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:13But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised;
14And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.14And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.14and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.14And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.14and if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation is without foundation, and so is your faith.
15More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised.15We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised.15Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised.15Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.15In addition, we are found to be false witnesses about God, because we have testified about God that He raised up Christ--whom He did not raise up if in fact the dead are not raised.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
16For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either.16For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised.16For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised;16For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:16For if the dead are not raised, Christ has not been raised.
17And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.17And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.17and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.17And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.17And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.
18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost.18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.18Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.18Therefore, those who have fallen asleep in Christ have also perished.
19If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.19If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.19If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.19If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.19If we have put our hope in Christ for this life only, we should be pitied more than anyone.

The Order of Resurrection

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
20But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.20But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.20But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.20But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.21For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.21For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.21For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man.
22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.22For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.22For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.22For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
23But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.23But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.23But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ's at His coming,23But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.23But each in his own order: Christ, the firstfruits; afterward, at His coming, those who belong to Christ.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
24Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.24Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.24then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.24Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.24Then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father, when He abolishes all rule and all authority and power.
25For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.25For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.25For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.25For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.25For He must reign until He puts all His enemies under His feet.
26The last enemy to be destroyed is death.26The last enemy to be destroyed is death.26The last enemy that will be abolished is death.26The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.26The last enemy to be abolished is death.
27For he "has put everything under his feet." Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ.27For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him.27For HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He says, "All things are put in subjection," it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him.27For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.27For God has put everything under His feet. But when it says "everything" is put under Him, it is obvious that He who puts everything under Him is the exception.
28When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.28When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.28When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.28And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.28And when everything is subject to Christ, then the Son Himself will also be subject to the One who subjected everything to Him, so that God may be all in all.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
29Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them?29Otherwise, what do people mean by being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized on their behalf?29Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them?29Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?29Otherwise what will they do who are being baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, then why are people baptized for them?
30And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour?30Why are we in danger every hour?30Why are we also in danger every hour?30And why stand we in jeopardy every hour?30Why are we in danger every hour?
31I face death every day--yes, just as surely as I boast about you in Christ Jesus our Lord.31I protest, brothers, by my pride in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die every day!31I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.31I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.31I affirm by the pride in you that I have in Christ Jesus our Lord: I die every day!
32If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus with no more than human hopes, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die."32What do I gain if, humanly speaking, I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”32If from human motives I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, LET US EAT AND DRINK, FOR TOMORROW WE DIE.32If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die.32If I fought wild animals in Ephesus with only human hope, what good did that do me? If the dead are not raised, Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.
33Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character."33Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”33Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals."33Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.33Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals."
34Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God--I say this to your shame.34Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.34Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.34Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.34Come to your senses and stop sinning, for some people are ignorant about God. I say this to your shame.

The Resurrection Body

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
35But someone will ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?"35But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?”35But someone will say, "How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?"35But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?35But someone will say, "How are the dead raised? What kind of body will they have when they come?"
36How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.36You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.36You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies;36Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:36Foolish one! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.
37When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else.37And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain.37and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else.37And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:37And as for what you sow--you are not sowing the future body, but only a seed, perhaps of wheat or another grain.
38But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body.38But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body.38But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own.38But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.38But God gives it a body as He wants, and to each of the seeds its own body.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
39Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another.39For not all flesh is the same, but there is one kind for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish.39All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fish.39All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.39Not all flesh is the same flesh; there is one flesh for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish.
40There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another.40There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another.40There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another.40There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.40There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is different from that of the earthly ones.
41The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.41There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.41There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.41There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.41There is a splendor of the sun, another of the moon, and another of the stars; for one star differs from another star in splendor.
42So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;42So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable.42So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body;42So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:42So it is with the resurrection of the dead: Sown in corruption, raised in incorruption;
43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;43It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;43It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:43sown in dishonor, raised in glory; sown in weakness, raised in power;
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
44it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.44It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.44it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.44It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.44sown a natural body, raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
45So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.45Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.45So also it is written, "The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING SOUL." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.45And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.45So it is written: The first man Adam became a living being; the last Adam became a life-giving Spirit.
46The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.46But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual.46However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual.46Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.46However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, then the spiritual.
47The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven.47The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven.47The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven.47The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.47The first man was from the earth and made of dust; the second man is from heaven.
48As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.48As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.48As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly.48As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.48Like the man made of dust, so are those who are made of dust; like the heavenly man, so are those who are heavenly.
49And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man.49Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.49Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly.49And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.49And just as we have borne the image of the man made of dust, we will also bear the image of the heavenly man.

Where O Death is Your Victory?

(Isaiah 57:1-2; Hosea 13:14)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
50I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.50I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.50Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.50Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.50Brothers, I tell you this: Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, and corruption cannot inherit incorruption.
51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed--51Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,51Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed,51Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,51Listen! I am telling you a mystery: We will not all fall asleep, but we will all be changed,
52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.52in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.52in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.52in a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.
53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.53For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.53For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.53For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.53For this corruptible must be clothed with incorruptibility, and this mortal must be clothed with immortality.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."54When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”54But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, "DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory.54So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.54When this corruptible is clothed with incorruptibility, and this mortal is clothed with immortality, then the saying that is written will take place: Death has been swallowed up in victory.
55"Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"55“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”55"O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?"55O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?55Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?
56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;56The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.56Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
57But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.57But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.57but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.57But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
58Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.58Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.58Therefore, my dear brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord's work, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
