Solomon Builds the Temple

(2 Chronicles 3:1-2)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites came out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, the second month, he began to build the temple of the LORD.1In the four hundred and eightieth year after the people of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build the house of the LORD.1Now it came about in the four hundred and eightieth year after the sons of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.1And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.1Solomon began to build the temple for the LORD in the four hundred eightieth year after the Israelites came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of his reign over Israel, in the second month, in the month of Ziv.
2The temple that King Solomon built for the LORD was sixty cubits long, twenty wide and thirty high.2The house that King Solomon built for the LORD was sixty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high.2As for the house which King Solomon built for the LORD, its length was sixty cubits and its width twenty cubits and its height thirty cubits.2And the house which king Solomon built for the LORD, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits.2The temple that King Solomon built for the LORD was 90 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 45 feet high.
3The portico at the front of the main hall of the temple extended the width of the temple, that is twenty cubits, and projected ten cubits from the front of the temple.3The vestibule in front of the nave of the house was twenty cubits long, equal to the width of the house, and ten cubits deep in front of the house.3The porch in front of the nave of the house was twenty cubits in length, corresponding to the width of the house, and its depth along the front of the house was ten cubits.3And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.3The portico in front of the temple sanctuary was 30 feet long extending across the temple's width, and 15 feet deep in front of the temple.
4He made narrow windows high up in the temple walls.4And he made for the house windows with recessed frames.4Also for the house he made windows with artistic frames.4And for the house he made windows of narrow lights.4He also made windows with beveled frames for the temple.

The Chambers

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
5Against the walls of the main hall and inner sanctuary he built a structure around the building, in which there were side rooms.5He also built a structure against the wall of the house, running around the walls of the house, both the nave and the inner sanctuary. And he made side chambers all around.5Against the wall of the house he built stories encompassing the walls of the house around both the nave and the inner sanctuary; thus he made side chambers all around.5And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about:5He then built a chambered structure along the temple wall, encircling the walls of the temple, that is, the sanctuary and the inner sanctuary. And he made side chambers all around.
6The lowest floor was five cubits wide, the middle floor six cubits and the third floor seven. He made offset ledges around the outside of the temple so that nothing would be inserted into the temple walls.6The lowest story was five cubits broad, the middle one was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad. For around the outside of the house he made offsets on the wall in order that the supporting beams should not be inserted into the walls of the house.6The lowest story was five cubits wide, and the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for on the outside he made offsets in the wall of the house all around in order that the beams would not be inserted in the walls of the house.6The nethermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.6The lowest chamber was 7 1/2 feet wide, the middle was nine feet wide, and the third was 10 1/2 feet wide. He also provided offset ledges for the temple all around the outside so that nothing would be inserted into the temple walls.
7In building the temple, only blocks dressed at the quarry were used, and no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool was heard at the temple site while it was being built.7When the house was built, it was with stone prepared at the quarry, so that neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was being built.7The house, while it was being built, was built of stone prepared at the quarry, and there was neither hammer nor axe nor any iron tool heard in the house while it was being built.7And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.7The temple's construction used finished stones cut at the quarry so that no hammer, chisel, or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built.
8The entrance to the lowest floor was on the south side of the temple; a stairway led up to the middle level and from there to the third.8The entrance for the lowest story was on the south side of the house, and one went up by stairs to the middle story, and from the middle story to the third.8The doorway for the lowest side chamber was on the right side of the house; and they would go up by winding stairs to the middle story, and from the middle to the third.8The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third.8The door for the lowest side chamber was on the right side of the temple. They went up a stairway to the middle chamber, and from the middle to the third.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
9So he built the temple and completed it, roofing it with beams and cedar planks.9So he built the house and finished it, and he made the ceiling of the house of beams and planks of cedar.9So he built the house and finished it; and he covered the house with beams and planks of cedar.9So he built the house, and finished it; and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar.9When he finished building the temple, he paneled it with boards and planks of cedar.
10And he built the side rooms all along the temple. The height of each was five cubits, and they were attached to the temple by beams of cedar.10He built the structure against the whole house, five cubits high, and it was joined to the house with timbers of cedar.10He also built the stories against the whole house, each five cubits high; and they were fastened to the house with timbers of cedar.10And then he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.10He built the chambers along the entire temple, joined to the temple with cedar beams; each story was 7 1/2 feet high.

God's Promise

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
11The word of the LORD came to Solomon:11Now the word of the LORD came to Solomon,11Now the word of the LORD came to Solomon saying,11And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying,11The word of the LORD came to Solomon:"
12"As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, observe my laws and keep all my commands and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise I gave to David your father.12“Concerning this house that you are building, if you will walk in my statutes and obey my rules and keep all my commandments and walk in them, then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father.12"Concerning this house which you are building, if you will walk in My statutes and execute My ordinances and keep all My commandments by walking in them, then I will carry out My word with you which I spoke to David your father.12Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:12As for this temple you are building--if you walk in My statutes, observe My ordinances, and keep all My commands by walking in them, I will fulfill My promise to you, which I made to your father David.
13And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon my people Israel."13And I will dwell among the children of Israel and will not forsake my people Israel.”13"I will dwell among the sons of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel."13And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.13I will live among the Israelites and not abandon My people Israel."

(2 Chronicles 3:5-9)

14So Solomon built the temple and completed it.14So Solomon built the house and finished it.14So Solomon built the house and finished it.14So Solomon built the house, and finished it.14When Solomon finished building the temple,

The Temple's Interior

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
15He lined its interior walls with cedar boards, paneling them from the floor of the temple to the ceiling, and covered the floor of the temple with planks of juniper.15He lined the walls of the house on the inside with boards of cedar. From the floor of the house to the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood, and he covered the floor of the house with boards of cypress.15Then he built the walls of the house on the inside with boards of cedar; from the floor of the house to the ceiling he overlaid the walls on the inside with wood, and he overlaid the floor of the house with boards of cypress.15And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the cieling: and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir.15he paneled the interior temple walls with cedar boards; from the temple floor to the surface of the ceiling he overlaid the interior with wood. He also overlaid the floor with cypress boards.
16He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with cedar boards from floor to ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place.16He built twenty cubits of the rear of the house with boards of cedar from the floor to the walls, and he built this within as an inner sanctuary, as the Most Holy Place.16He built twenty cubits on the rear part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor to the ceiling; he built them for it on the inside as an inner sanctuary, even as the most holy place.16And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the oracle, even for the most holy place.16Then he lined 30 feet of the rear of the temple with cedar boards from the floor to the surface of the ceiling, and he built the interior as an inner sanctuary, the most holy place.
17The main hall in front of this room was forty cubits long.17The house, that is, the nave in front of the inner sanctuary, was forty cubits long.17The house, that is, the nave in front of the inner sanctuary, was forty cubits long.17And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long.17The temple, that is, the sanctuary in front of the most holy place, was 60 feet long.
18The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was cedar; no stone was to be seen.18The cedar within the house was carved in the form of gourds and open flowers. All was cedar; no stone was seen.18There was cedar on the house within, carved in the shape of gourds and open flowers; all was cedar, there was no stone seen.18And the cedar of the house within was carved with knops and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen.18The cedar paneling inside the temple was carved with ornamental gourds and flower blossoms. Everything was cedar; not a stone could be seen.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
19He prepared the inner sanctuary within the temple to set the ark of the covenant of the LORD there.19The inner sanctuary he prepared in the innermost part of the house, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.19Then he prepared an inner sanctuary within the house in order to place there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.19And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.19He prepared the inner sanctuary inside the temple to put the ark of the LORD's covenant there.
20The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty wide and twenty high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of cedar.20The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high, and he overlaid it with pure gold. He also overlaid an altar of cedar.20The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits in length, twenty cubits in width, and twenty cubits in height, and he overlaid it with pure gold. He also overlaid the altar with cedar.20And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.20The interior of the sanctuary was 30 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 30 feet high; he overlaid it with pure gold. He also overlaid the cedar altar.
21Solomon covered the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold.21And Solomon overlaid the inside of the house with pure gold, and he drew chains of gold across, in front of the inner sanctuary, and overlaid it with gold.21So Solomon overlaid the inside of the house with pure gold. And he drew chains of gold across the front of the inner sanctuary, and he overlaid it with gold.21So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.21Next, Solomon overlaid the interior of the temple with pure gold, and he hung gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary and overlaid it with gold.
22So he overlaid the whole interior with gold. He also overlaid with gold the altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.22And he overlaid the whole house with gold, until all the house was finished. Also the whole altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary he overlaid with gold.22He overlaid the whole house with gold, until all the house was finished. Also the whole altar which was by the inner sanctuary he overlaid with gold.22And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the oracle he overlaid with gold.22So he added the gold overlay to the entire temple until everything was completely finished, including the entire altar that belongs to the inner sanctuary.

The Cherubim

(2 Chronicles 3:10-13)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
23For the inner sanctuary he made a pair of cherubim out of olive wood, each ten cubits high.23In the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olivewood, each ten cubits high.23Also in the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high.23And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high.23In the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim 15 feet high out of olive wood.
24One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long, and the other wing five cubits--ten cubits from wing tip to wing tip.24Five cubits was the length of one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the length of the other wing of the cherub; it was ten cubits from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other.24Five cubits was the one wing of the cherub and five cubits the other wing of the cherub; from the end of one wing to the end of the other wing were ten cubits.24And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.24One wing of the first cherub was 7 1/2 feet long, and the other wing was 7 1/2 feet long. The wingspan was 15 feet from tip to tip.
25The second cherub also measured ten cubits, for the two cherubim were identical in size and shape.25The other cherub also measured ten cubits; both cherubim had the same measure and the same form.25The other cherub was ten cubits; both the cherubim were of the same measure and the same form.25And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size.25The second cherub also was 15 feet; both cherubim had the same size and shape.
26The height of each cherub was ten cubits.26The height of one cherub was ten cubits, and so was that of the other cherub.26The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was the other cherub.26The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.26The first cherub's height was 15 feet and so was the second cherub's.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
27He placed the cherubim inside the innermost room of the temple, with their wings spread out. The wing of one cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the other touched the other wall, and their wings touched each other in the middle of the room.27He put the cherubim in the innermost part of the house. And the wings of the cherubim were spread out so that a wing of one touched the one wall, and a wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; their other wings touched each other in the middle of the house.27He placed the cherubim in the midst of the inner house, and the wings of the cherubim were spread out, so that the wing of the one was touching the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub was touching the other wall. So their wings were touching each other in the center of the house.27And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.27Then he put the cherubim inside the inner temple. Since their wings were spread out, the first one's wing touched one wall while the second cherub's wing touched the other wall, and in the middle of the temple their wings were touching wing to wing.
28He overlaid the cherubim with gold.28And he overlaid the cherubim with gold.28He also overlaid the cherubim with gold.28And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.28He also overlaid the cherubim with gold.
29On the walls all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers.29Around all the walls of the house he carved engraved figures of cherubim and palm trees and open flowers, in the inner and outer rooms.29Then he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved engravings of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, inner and outer sanctuaries.29And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without.29He carved all the surrounding temple walls with carved engravings--cherubim, palm trees and flower blossoms--in both the inner and outer sanctuaries.
30He also covered the floors of both the inner and outer rooms of the temple with gold.30The floor of the house he overlaid with gold in the inner and outer rooms.30He overlaid the floor of the house with gold, inner and outer sanctuaries.30And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.30He overlaid the temple floor with gold in both the inner and outer sanctuaries.

The Doors

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
31For the entrance to the inner sanctuary he made doors out of olive wood that were one fifth of the width of the sanctuary.31For the entrance to the inner sanctuary he made doors of olivewood; the lintel and the doorposts were five-sided.31For the entrance of the inner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood, the lintel and five-sided doorposts.31And for the entering of the oracle he made doors of olive tree: the lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall.31For the entrance of the inner sanctuary, he made olive wood doors. The pillars of the doorposts were five-sided.
32And on the two olive-wood doors he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid the cherubim and palm trees with hammered gold.32He covered the two doors of olivewood with carvings of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers. He overlaid them with gold and spread gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees.32So he made two doors of olive wood, and he carved on them carvings of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold; and he spread the gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees.32The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees.32The two doors were made of olive wood. He carved cherubim, palm trees, and flower blossoms on them and overlaid them with gold, hammering gold over the cherubim and palm trees.
33In the same way, for the entrance to the main hall he made doorframes out of olive wood that were one fourth of the width of the hall.33So also he made for the entrance to the nave doorposts of olivewood, in the form of a square,33So also he made for the entrance of the nave four-sided doorposts of olive wood33So also made he for the door of the temple posts of olive tree, a fourth part of the wall.33In the same way, he made four-sided olive wood doorposts for the sanctuary entrance.
34He also made two doors out of juniper wood, each having two leaves that turned in sockets.34and two doors of cypress wood. The two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.34and two doors of cypress wood; the two leaves of the one door turned on pivots, and the two leaves of the other door turned on pivots.34And the two doors were of fir tree: the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.34The two doors were made of cypress wood; the first door had two folding sides, and the second door had two folding panels.
35He carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers on them and overlaid them with gold hammered evenly over the carvings.35On them he carved cherubim and palm trees and open flowers, and he overlaid them with gold evenly applied on the carved work.35He carved on it cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers; and he overlaid them with gold evenly applied on the engraved work.35And he carved thereon cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work.35He carved cherubim, palm trees, and flower blossoms on them and overlaid them with gold applied evenly over the carving.

The Courtyard

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
36And he built the inner courtyard of three courses of dressed stone and one course of trimmed cedar beams.36He built the inner court with three courses of cut stone and one course of cedar beams.36He built the inner court with three rows of cut stone and a row of cedar beams.36And he built the inner court with three rows of hewed stone, and a row of cedar beams.36He built the inner courtyard with three rows of dressed stone and a row of trimmed cedar beams.
37The foundation of the temple of the LORD was laid in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv.37In the fourth year the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid, in the month of Ziv.37In the fourth year the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid, in the month of Ziv.37In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Zif:37The foundation of the LORD's temple was laid in Solomon's fourth year in the month of Ziv.
38In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details according to its specifications. He had spent seven years building it.38And in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished in all its parts, and according to all its specifications. He was seven years in building it.38In the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished throughout all its parts and according to all its plans. So he was seven years in building it.38And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.38In his eleventh year in the eighth month, in the month of Bul, the temple was completed in every detail and according to every specification. So he built it in seven years.
