The Perfect High Priest

(Psalm 110:1-7)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.1For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.1For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins;1For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:1For every high priest taken from men is appointed in service to God for the people, to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.
2He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness.2He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness.2he can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is beset with weakness;2Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.2He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he is also subject to weakness.
3This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.3Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people.3and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices for sins, as for the people, so also for himself.3And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.3Because of this, he must make a sin offering for himself as well as for the people.
4And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God, just as Aaron was.4And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was.4And no one takes the honor to himself, but receives it when he is called by God, even as Aaron was.4And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.4No one takes this honor on himself; instead, a person is called by God, just as Aaron was.

5In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father."5So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”;5So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU";5So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.5In the same way, the Messiah did not exalt Himself to become a high priest, but the One who said to Him, You are My Son; today I have become Your Father,
6And he says in another place, "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."6as he says also in another place, “You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.”6just as He says also in another passage, "YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK."6As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.6also said in another passage, You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.
7During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.7In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.7In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.7Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;7During His earthly life, He offered prayers and appeals with loud cries and tears to the One who was able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence.
8Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered8Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered.8Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.8Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;8Though He was God's Son, He learned obedience through what He suffered.
9and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him9And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,9And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,9And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;9After He was perfected, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him,
10and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.10being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.10being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.10Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.10and He was declared by God a high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Warning against Drifting Away

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
11We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand.11About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.11Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.11Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.11We have a great deal to say about this, and it's difficult to explain, since you have become too lazy to understand.
12In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!12For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,12For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.12For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.12Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the basic principles of God's revelation again. You need milk, not solid food.
13Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.13for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child.13For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.13For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.13Now everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the message about righteousness, because he is an infant.
14But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.14But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.14But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.14But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.14But solid food is for the mature--for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil.
