Be silent, you people of the island and you merchants of Sidon, whom the seafarers have enriched.2Be still, O inhabitants of the coast; the merchants of Sidon, who cross the sea, have filled you.2Be silent, you inhabitants of the coastland, You merchants of Sidon; Your messengers crossed the sea2Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished.2Mourn, inhabitants of the coastland, you merchants of Sidon; your agents have crossed the sea
On the great waters came the grain of the Shihor; the harvest of the Nile was the revenue of Tyre, and she became the marketplace of the nations.3And on many waters your revenue was the grain of Shihor, the harvest of the Nile; you were the merchant of the nations.3And were on many waters. The grain of the Nile, the harvest of the River was her revenue; And she was the market of nations.3And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a mart of nations.3on many waters. Tyre's revenue was the grain from Shihor-- the harvest of the Nile. She was the merchant among the nations.
Be ashamed, Sidon, and you fortress of the sea, for the sea has spoken: "I have neither been in labor nor given birth; I have neither reared sons nor brought up daughters."4Be ashamed, O Sidon, for the sea has spoken, the stronghold of the sea, saying: “I have neither labored nor given birth, I have neither reared young men nor brought up young women.”4Be ashamed, O Sidon; For the sea speaks, the stronghold of the sea, saying, "I have neither travailed nor given birth, I have neither brought up young men nor reared virgins."4Be thou ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea hath spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I travail not, nor bring forth children, neither do I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins.4Be ashamed Sidon, the stronghold of the sea, for the sea has spoken:" I have not been in labor or given birth. 5When word comes to Egypt, they will be in anguish at the report from Tyre.5When the report comes to Egypt, they will be in anguish over the report about Tyre.5When the report reaches Egypt, They will be in anguish at the report of Tyre.5As at the report concerning Egypt, so shall they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre.5When the news reaches Egypt, they will be in anguish over the news about Tyre.
Cross over to Tarshish; wail, you people of the island.6Cross over to Tarshish; wail, O inhabitants of the coast!6Pass over to Tarshish; Wail, O inhabitants of the coastland.6Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle.6Cross over to Tarshish; wail, inhabitants of the coastland!
Is this your city of revelry, the old, old city, whose feet have taken her to settle in far-off lands?7Is this your exultant city whose origin is from days of old, whose feet carried her to settle far away?7Is this your jubilant city, Whose origin is from antiquity, Whose feet used to carry her to colonize distant places?7Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.7Is this your jubilant city, whose origin was in ancient times, whose feet have taken her to settle far away?
Who planned this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns, whose merchants are princes, whose traders are renowned in the earth?8Who has purposed this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns, whose merchants were princes, whose traders were the honored of the earth?8Who has planned this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns, Whose merchants were princes, whose traders were the honored of the earth?8Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth?8Who planned this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns, whose traders are princes, whose merchants are the honored ones of the earth?
The LORD Almighty planned it, to bring down her pride in all her splendor and to humble all who are renowned on the earth.9The LORD of hosts has purposed it, to defile the pompous pride of all glory, to dishonor all the honored of the earth.9The LORD of hosts has planned it, to defile the pride of all beauty, To despise all the honored of the earth.9The LORD of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.9The LORD of Hosts planned it, to desecrate all its glorious beauty, to disgrace all the honored ones of the earth.

Till your land as they do along the Nile, Daughter Tarshish, for you no longer have a harbor.10Cross over your land like the Nile, O daughter of Tarshish; there is no restraint anymore.10Overflow your land like the Nile, O daughter of Tarshish, There is no more restraint.10Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength.10Overflow your land like the Nile, daughter of Tarshish; there is no longer anything to restrain you.
The LORD has stretched out his hand over the sea and made its kingdoms tremble. He has given an order concerning Phoenicia that her fortresses be destroyed.11He has stretched out his hand over the sea; he has shaken the kingdoms; the LORD has given command concerning Canaan to destroy its strongholds.11He has stretched His hand out over the sea, He has made the kingdoms tremble; The LORD has given a command concerning Canaan to demolish its strongholds.11He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the LORD hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof.11He stretched out His hand over the sea; He made kingdoms tremble. The LORD has commanded that the Canaanite fortresses be destroyed.
He said, "No more of your reveling, Virgin Daughter Sidon, now crushed! "Up, cross over to Cyprus; even there you will find no rest."12And he said: “You will no more exult, O oppressed virgin daughter of Sidon; arise, cross over to Cyprus, even there you will have no rest.”12He has said, "You shall exult no more, O crushed virgin daughter of Sidon. Arise, pass over to Cyprus; even there you will find no rest."12And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest.12He said," You will not rejoice anymore, ravished young woman, daughter of Sidon. Get up and cross over to Cyprus-- even there you will have no rest!"
Look at the land of the Babylonians, this people that is now of no account! The Assyrians have made it a place for desert creatures; they raised up their siege towers, they stripped its fortresses bare and turned it into a ruin.13Behold the land of the Chaldeans! This is the people that was not; Assyria destined it for wild beasts. They erected their siege towers, they stripped her palaces bare, they made her a ruin.13Behold, the land of the Chaldeans-- this is the people which was not; Assyria appointed it for desert creatures-- they erected their siege towers, they stripped its palaces, they made it a ruin.13Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin.13Look at the land of the Chaldeans-- a people who no longer exist. Assyria destined it for desert creatures. They set up their siege towers and stripped its palaces. They made it a ruin.
Wail, you ships of Tarshish; your fortress is destroyed!14Wail, O ships of Tarshish, for your stronghold is laid waste.14Wail, O ships of Tarshish, For your stronghold is destroyed.14Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.14Wail, ships of Tarshish, because your fortress is destroyed!

At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years, the span of a king's life. But at the end of these seventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the prostitute:15In that day Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years, like the days of one king. At the end of seventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the prostitute:15Now in that day Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years like the days of one king. At the end of seventy years it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the harlot:15And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.15On that day Tyre will be forgotten for 70 years--the life span of one king. At the end of 70 years, what the song says about the prostitute will happen to Tyre:
"Take up a harp, walk through the city, you forgotten prostitute; play the harp well, sing many a song, so that you will be remembered."16“Take a harp; go about the city, O forgotten prostitute! Make sweet melody; sing many songs, that you may be remembered.”16Take your harp, walk about the city, O forgotten harlot; Pluck the strings skillfully, sing many songs, That you may be remembered.16Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.16Pick up your lyre, stroll through the city, prostitute forgotten by men. Play skillfully, sing many a song, and you will be thought of again.
At the end of seventy years, the LORD will deal with Tyre. She will return to her lucrative prostitution and will ply her trade with all the kingdoms on the face of the earth.17At the end of seventy years, the LORD will visit Tyre, and she will return to her wages and will prostitute herself with all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth.17It will come about at the end of seventy years that the LORD will visit Tyre. Then she will go back to her harlot's wages and will play the harlot with all the kingdoms on the face of the earth.17And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.17And at the end of the 70 years, the LORD will restore Tyre and she will go back into business, prostituting herself with all the kingdoms of the world on the face of the earth.
Yet her profit and her earnings will be set apart for the LORD; they will not be stored up or hoarded. Her profits will go to those who live before the LORD, for abundant food and fine clothes.18Her merchandise and her wages will be holy to the LORD. It will not be stored or hoarded, but her merchandise will supply abundant food and fine clothing for those who dwell before the LORD.18Her gain and her harlot's wages will be set apart to the LORD; it will not be stored up or hoarded, but her gain will become sufficient food and choice attire for those who dwell in the presence of the LORD.18And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.18But her profits and wages will be dedicated to the LORD. They will not be stored or saved, for her profit will go to those who live in the LORD's presence, to provide them with ample food and sacred clothing.
