"As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made my life bitter,2“As God lives, who has taken away my right, and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,2"As God lives, who has taken away my right, And the Almighty, who has embittered my soul,2As God liveth, who hath taken away my judgment; and the Almighty, who hath vexed my soul;2As God lives, who has deprived me of justice, and the Almighty who has made me bitter,
as long as I have life within me, the breath of God in my nostrils,3as long as my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils,3For as long as life is in me, And the breath of God is in my nostrils,3All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;3as long as my breath is still in me and the breath from God remains in my nostrils,
my lips will not say anything wicked, and my tongue will not utter lies.4my lips will not speak falsehood, and my tongue will not utter deceit.4My lips certainly will not speak unjustly, Nor will my tongue mutter deceit.4My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.4my lips will not speak unjustly, and my tongue will not utter deceit.

I will never admit you are in the right; till I die, I will not deny my integrity.5Far be it from me to say that you are right; till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.5"Far be it from me that I should declare you right; Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.5God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me.5I will never affirm that you are right. I will maintain my integrity until I die.
I will maintain my innocence and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live.6I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go; my heart does not reproach me for any of my days.6"I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go. My heart does not reproach any of my days.6My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.6I will cling to my righteousness and never let it go. My conscience will not accuse me as long as I live!

The State of the Godless

"May my enemy be like the wicked, my adversary like the unjust!7“Let my enemy be as the wicked, and let him who rises up against me be as the unrighteous.7"May my enemy be as the wicked And my opponent as the unjust.7Let mine enemy be as the wicked, and he that riseth up against me as the unrighteous.7May my enemy be like the wicked and my opponent like the unjust.
For what hope have the godless when they are cut off, when God takes away their life?8For what is the hope of the godless when God cuts him off, when God takes away his life?8"For what is the hope of the godless when he is cut off, When God requires his life?8For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?8For what hope does the godless man have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?
Does God listen to their cry when distress comes upon them?9Will God hear his cry when distress comes upon him?9"Will God hear his cry When distress comes upon him?9Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him?9Will God hear his cry when distress comes on him?
Will they find delight in the Almighty? Will they call on God at all times?10Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times?10"Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?10Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God?10Will he delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?

"I will teach you about the power of God; the ways of the Almighty I will not conceal.11I will teach you concerning the hand of God; what is with the Almighty I will not conceal.11"I will instruct you in the power of God; What is with the Almighty I will not conceal.11I will teach you by the hand of God: that which is with the Almighty will I not conceal.11I will teach you about God's power. I will not conceal what the Almighty has planned.
You have all seen this yourselves. Why then this meaningless talk?12Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain?12"Behold, all of you have seen it; Why then do you act foolishly?12Behold, all ye yourselves have seen it; why then are ye thus altogether vain?12All of you have seen this for yourselves, why do you keep up this empty talk?
"Here is the fate God allots to the wicked, the heritage a ruthless man receives from the Almighty:13“This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage that oppressors receive from the Almighty:13"This is the portion of a wicked man from God, And the inheritance which tyrants receive from the Almighty.13This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty.13This is a wicked man's lot from God, the inheritance the ruthless receive from the Almighty.
However many his children, their fate is the sword; his offspring will never have enough to eat.14If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword, and his descendants have not enough bread.14"Though his sons are many, they are destined for the sword; And his descendants will not be satisfied with bread.14If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.14Even if his children increase, they are destined for the sword; his descendants will never have enough food.
The plague will bury those who survive him, and their widows will not weep for them.15Those who survive him the pestilence buries, and his widows do not weep.15"His survivors will be buried because of the plague, And their widows will not be able to weep.15Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep.15Those who survive him will be buried by the plague, yet their widows will not weep for them.

Though he heaps up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay,16Though he heap up silver like dust, and pile up clothing like clay,16"Though he piles up silver like dust And prepares garments as plentiful as the clay,16Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay;16Though he piles up silver like dust and heaps up a wardrobe like clay--
what he lays up the righteous will wear, and the innocent will divide his silver.17he may pile it up, but the righteous will wear it, and the innocent will divide the silver.17He may prepare it, but the just will wear it And the innocent will divide the silver.17He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.17he may heap it up, but the righteous will wear it, and the innocent will divide up his silver.
The house he builds is like a moth's cocoon, like a hut made by a watchman.18He builds his house like a moth’s, like a booth that a watchman makes.18"He has built his house like the spider's web, Or as a hut which the watchman has made.18He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh.18The house he built is like a moth's cocoon or a booth set up by a watchman.
He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, all is gone.19He goes to bed rich, but will do so no more; he opens his eyes, and his wealth is gone.19"He lies down rich, but never again; He opens his eyes, and it is no longer.19The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not.19He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, it is gone.
Terrors overtake him like a flood; a tempest snatches him away in the night.20Terrors overtake him like a flood; in the night a whirlwind carries him off.20"Terrors overtake him like a flood; A tempest steals him away in the night.20Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night.20Terrors overtake him like a flood; a storm wind sweeps him away at night.

The east wind carries him off, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.21The east wind lifts him up and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.21"The east wind carries him away, and he is gone, For it whirls him away from his place.21The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place.21An east wind picks him up, and he is gone; it carries him away from his place.
It hurls itself against him without mercy as he flees headlong from its power.22It hurls at him without pity; he flees from its power in headlong flight.22"For it will hurl at him without sparing; He will surely try to flee from its power.22For God shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.22It blasts at him without mercy, while he flees desperately from its grasp.
It claps its hands in derision and hisses him out of his place."23It claps its hands at him and hisses at him from its place.23"Men will clap their hands at him And will hiss him from his place.23Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.23It claps its hands at him and scorns him from its place.
