Jesus Washes the Disciples' Feet

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.1Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.1Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.1Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.1Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that His hour had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.
2The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.2During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,2During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him,2And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;2Now by the time of supper, the Devil had already put it into the heart of Judas, Simon Iscariot's son, to betray Him.
3Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;3Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God,3Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God,3Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;3Jesus knew that the Father had given everything into His hands, that He had come from God, and that He was going back to God.
4so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.4rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist.4got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself.4He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.4So He got up from supper, laid aside His robe, took a towel, and tied it around Himself.

5After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.5Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.5Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.5After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.5Next, He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples' feet and to dry them with the towel tied around Him.
6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?"6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?”6So He came to Simon Peter. He said to Him, "Lord, do You wash my feet?"6Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?6He came to Simon Peter, who asked Him, "Lord, are You going to wash my feet?"
7Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."7Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.”7Jesus answered and said to him, "What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand hereafter."7Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.7Jesus answered him, "What I'm doing you don't understand now, but afterward you will know.""
8"No," said Peter, "you shall never wash my feet." Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no part with me."8Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.”8Peter said to Him, "Never shall You wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me."8Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.8You will never wash my feet--ever!" Peter said. Jesus replied, "If I don't wash you, you have no part with Me."
9"Then, Lord," Simon Peter replied, "not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"9Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!”9Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head."9Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.9Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head."

10Jesus answered, "Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you."10Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.”10Jesus said to him, "He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you."10Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.10"One who has bathed," Jesus told him, "doesn't need to wash anything except his feet, but he is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you."
11For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.11For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”11For He knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, "Not all of you are clean."11For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.11For He knew who would betray Him. This is why He said, "You are not all clean."
12When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them.12When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you?12So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you?12So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?12When Jesus had washed their feet and put on His robe, He reclined again and said to them, "Do you know what I have done for you?
13"You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am.13You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am.13"You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am.13Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.13You call Me Teacher and Lord. This is well said, for I am.
14Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet.14If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.14"If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.14If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.14So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.

15I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.15For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.15"For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.15For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.15For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done for you.
16Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.16Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.16"Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.16Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.16"I assure you: A slave is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him.
17Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.17If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.17"If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.17If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.17If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.

Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

(Psalm 41:1-13; Matthew 26:17-25; Mark 14:12-21; Luke 22:7-13)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
18"I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: 'He who shared my bread has turned against me.'18I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But the Scripture will be fulfilled, ‘He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’18"I do not speak of all of you. I know the ones I have chosen; but it is that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'HE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEEL AGAINST ME.'18I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.18I'm not speaking about all of you; I know those I have chosen. But the Scripture must be fulfilled: The one who eats My bread has raised his heel against Me.
19"I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am.19I am telling you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he.19"From now on I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I am He.19Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.19"I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am He.
20Very truly I tell you, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me."20Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”20"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me."20Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.20I assure you: Whoever receives anyone I send receives Me, and the one who receives Me receives Him who sent Me."
21After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, "Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me."21After saying these things, Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, “Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.”21When Jesus had said this, He became troubled in spirit, and testified and said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, that one of you will betray Me."21When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.21When Jesus had said this, He was troubled in His spirit and testified, "I assure you: One of you will betray Me!"

22His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant.22The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke.22The disciples began looking at one another, at a loss to know of which one He was speaking.22Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.22The disciples started looking at one another--uncertain which one He was speaking about.
23One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him.23One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table at Jesus’ side,23There was reclining on Jesus' bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.23Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.23One of His disciples, the one Jesus loved, was reclining close beside Jesus.
24Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, "Ask him which one he means."24so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking.24So Simon Peter gestured to him, and said to him, "Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking."24Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.24Simon Peter motioned to him to find out who it was He was talking about.
25Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, "Lord, who is it?"25So that disciple, leaning back against Jesus, said to him, “Lord, who is it?”25He, leaning back thus on Jesus' bosom, said to Him, "Lord, who is it?"25He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?25So he leaned back against Jesus and asked Him, "Lord, who is it?"
26Jesus answered, "It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish." Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.26Jesus answered, “It is he to whom I will give this morsel of bread when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.26Jesus then answered, "That is the one for whom I shall dip the morsel and give it to him." So when He had dipped the morsel, He took and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.26Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.26Jesus replied, "He's the one I give the piece of bread to after I have dipped it." When He had dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas, Simon Iscariot's son.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
27As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. So Jesus told him, "What you are about to do, do quickly."27Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly.”27After the morsel, Satan then entered into him. Therefore Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly."27And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.27After Judas ate the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Therefore Jesus told him, "What you're doing, do quickly."
28But no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him.28Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him.28Now no one of those reclining at the table knew for what purpose He had said this to him.28Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.28None of those reclining at the table knew why He told him this.
29Since Judas had charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the festival, or to give something to the poor.29Some thought that, because Judas had the moneybag, Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor.29For some were supposing, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus was saying to him, "Buy the things we have need of for the feast"; or else, that he should give something to the poor.29For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.29Since Judas kept the money-bag, some thought that Jesus was telling him, "Buy what we need for the festival," or that he should give something to the poor.
30As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night.30So, after receiving the morsel of bread, he immediately went out. And it was night.30So after receiving the morsel he went out immediately; and it was night.30He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.30After receiving the piece of bread, he went out immediately. And it was night.

A New Command I Give You

(Romans 12:9-13; 1 John 3:11-24)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
31When he was gone, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him.31When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him.31Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him;31Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.31When he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him.
32If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once.32If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and glorify him at once.32if God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately.32If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.32If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself and will glorify Him at once.
33"My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.33Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’33"Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, 'Where I am going, you cannot come.'33Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.33"Children, I am with you a little while longer. You will look for Me, and just as I told the Jews, Where I am going you cannot come,' so now I tell you.
34"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.34A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.34"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.34A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.34"I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another.
35By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."35By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”35"By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."35By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.35By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.""

Jesus Predicts Peter's Denial

(Matthew 26:31-35; Mark 14:27-31; Luke 22:31-38)

36Simon Peter asked him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus replied, "Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later."36Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I am going you cannot follow me now, but you will follow afterward.”36Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, where are You going?" Jesus answered, "Where I go, you cannot follow Me now; but you will follow later."36Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.36Lord," Simon Peter said to Him, "where are You going?" Jesus answered, "Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you will follow later.""
37Peter asked, "Lord, why can't I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you."37Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”37Peter said to Him, "Lord, why can I not follow You right now? I will lay down my life for You."37Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.37Lord," Peter asked, "why can't I follow You now? I will lay down my life for You!"
38Then Jesus answered, "Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!38Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, the rooster will not crow till you have denied me three times.38Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly, I say to you, a rooster will not crow until you deny Me three times.38Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.38Jesus replied, "Will you lay down your life for Me? I assure you: A rooster will not crow until you have denied Me three times.
