Jesus Heals the Man Born Blind

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth.1As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.1As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth.1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.1As He was passing by, He saw a man blind from birth.
His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"2And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”2And His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?"2And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?2His disciples questioned Him: "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.3Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.3Jesus answered, "It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.3Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.3"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," Jesus answered. "This came about so that God's works might be displayed in him.
As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.4We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.4"We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work.4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.4We must do the works of Him who sent Me while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work.

While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”5"While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world."5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes.6Having said these things, he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man’s eyes with the mud6When He had said this, He spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and applied the clay to his eyes,6When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,6After He said these things He spit on the ground, made some mud from the saliva, and spread the mud on his eyes.
"Go," he told him, "wash in the Pool of Siloam" (this word means "Sent"). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.7and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.7and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam " (which is translated, Sent). So he went away and washed, and came back seeing.7And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.7"Go," He told him, "wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means "Sent"). So he left, washed, and came back seeing.
His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, "Isn't this the same man who used to sit and beg?"8The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar were saying, “Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?”8Therefore the neighbors, and those who previously saw him as a beggar, were saying, "Is not this the one who used to sit and beg?"8The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?8His neighbors and those who formerly had seen him as a beggar said, "Isn't this the man who sat begging?"
Some claimed that he was. Others said, "No, he only looks like him." But he himself insisted, "I am the man."9Some said, “It is he.” Others said, “No, but he is like him.” He kept saying, “I am the man.”9Others were saying, "This is he," still others were saying, "No, but he is like him." He kept saying, "I am the one."9Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.9Some said, "He's the one." "No," others were saying, "but he looks like him." He kept saying, "I'm the one!"
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
"How then were your eyes opened?" they asked.10So they said to him, “Then how were your eyes opened?”10So they were saying to him, "How then were your eyes opened?"10Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?10Therefore they asked him, "Then how were your eyes opened?"
He replied, "The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see."11He answered, “The man called Jesus made mud and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed and received my sight.”11He answered, "The man who is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash'; so I went away and washed, and I received sight."11He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.11He answered, "The man called Jesus made mud, spread it on my eyes, and told me, Go to Siloam and wash.' So when I went and washed I received my sight.""
"Where is this man?" they asked him. "I don't know," he said.12They said to him, “Where is he?” He said, “I do not know.”12They said to him, "Where is He?" He said, "I do not know."12Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.12Where is He?" they asked." I don't know," he said.

The Pharisees Investigate

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind.13They brought to the Pharisees the man who had formerly been blind.13They brought to the Pharisees the man who was formerly blind.13They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.13They brought the man who used to be blind to the Pharisees.
Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man's eyes was a Sabbath.14Now it was a Sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.14Now it was a Sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes.14And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.14The day that Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes was a Sabbath.
Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. "He put mud on my eyes," the man replied, "and I washed, and now I see."15So the Pharisees again asked him how he had received his sight. And he said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.”15Then the Pharisees also were asking him again how he received his sight. And he said to them, "He applied clay to my eyes, and I washed, and I see."15Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.15So again the Pharisees asked him how he received his sight." He put mud on my eyes," he told them. "I washed and I can see."
Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath." But others asked, "How can a sinner perform such signs?" So they were divided.16Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And there was a division among them.16Therefore some of the Pharisees were saying, "This man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath." But others were saying, "How can a man who is a sinner perform such signs?" And there was a division among them.16Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.16Therefore some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for He doesn't keep the Sabbath!" But others were saying, "How can a sinful man perform such signs?" And there was a division among them.

Then they turned again to the blind man, "What have you to say about him? It was your eyes he opened." The man replied, "He is a prophet."17So they said again to the blind man, “What do you say about him, since he has opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.”17So they said to the blind man again, "What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?" And he said, "He is a prophet."17They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.17Again they asked the blind man, "What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?"" He's a prophet," he said.
They still did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight until they sent for the man's parents.18The Jews did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight, until they called the parents of the man who had received his sight18The Jews then did not believe it of him, that he had been blind and had received sight, until they called the parents of the very one who had received his sight,18But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.18The Jews did not believe this about him--that he was blind and received sight--until they summoned the parents of the one who had received his sight.
"Is this your son?" they asked. "Is this the one you say was born blind? How is it that now he can see?"19and asked them, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?”19and questioned them, saying, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? Then how does he now see?"19And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?19They asked them, "Is this your son, the one you say was born blind? How then does he now see?""
"We know he is our son," the parents answered, "and we know he was born blind.20His parents answered, “We know that this is our son and that he was born blind.20His parents answered them and said, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;20His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:20We know this is our son and that he was born blind," his parents answered. "
But how he can see now, or who opened his eyes, we don't know. Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself."21But how he now sees we do not know, nor do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him; he is of age. He will speak for himself.”21but how he now sees, we do not know; or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him; he is of age, he will speak for himself."21But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.21But we don't know how he now sees, and we don't know who opened his eyes. Ask him; he's of age. He will speak for himself."
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, who already had decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be put out of the synagogue.22(His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone should confess Jesus to be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue.)22His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed Him to be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue.22These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.22His parents said these things because they were afraid of the Jews, since the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed Him as Messiah, he would be banned from the synagogue.
That was why his parents said, "He is of age; ask him."23Therefore his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”23For this reason his parents said, "He is of age; ask him."23Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.23This is why his parents said, "He's of age; ask him."
A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. "Give glory to God by telling the truth," they said. "We know this man is a sinner."24So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”24So a second time they called the man who had been blind, and said to him, "Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner."24Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.24So a second time they summoned the man who had been blind and told him, "Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner!"
He replied, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!"25He answered, “Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”25He then answered, "Whether He is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see."25He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.25He answered, "Whether or not He's a sinner, I don't know. One thing I do know: I was blind, and now I can see!"
Then they asked him, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"26They said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”26So they said to him, "What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?"26Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?26Then they asked him, "What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?""
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
He answered, "I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too?"27He answered them, “I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?”27He answered them, "I told you already and you did not listen; why do you want to hear it again? You do not want to become His disciples too, do you?"27He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?27I already told you," he said, "and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don't want to become His disciples too, do you?"
Then they hurled insults at him and said, "You are this fellow's disciple! We are disciples of Moses!28And they reviled him, saying, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.28They reviled him and said, "You are His disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.28Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.28They ridiculed him: "You're that man's disciple, but we're Moses' disciples.
We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don't even know where he comes from."29We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where he comes from.”29"We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where He is from."29We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.29We know that God has spoken to Moses. But this man--we don't know where He's from!""
The man answered, "Now that is remarkable! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.30The man answered, “Why, this is an amazing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes.30The man answered and said to them, "Well, here is an amazing thing, that you do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes.30The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.30This is an amazing thing," the man told them. "You don't know where He is from, yet He opened my eyes!
We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.31We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.31"We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.31Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.31We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He listens to him.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind.32Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind.32"Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind.32Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.32Throughout history no one has ever heard of someone opening the eyes of a person born blind.
If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."33If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”33"If this man were not from God, He could do nothing."33If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.33If this man were not from God, He wouldn't be able to do anything.""
To this they replied, "You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!" And they threw him out.34They answered him, “You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they cast him out.34They answered him, "You were born entirely in sins, and are you teaching us?" So they put him out.34They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.34You were born entirely in sin," they replied, "and are you trying to teach us?" Then they threw him out.

Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"35Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”35Jesus heard that they had put him out, and finding him, He said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"35Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?35When Jesus heard that they had thrown the man out, He found him and asked, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" "
"Who is he, sir?" the man asked. "Tell me so that I may believe in him."36He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?”36He answered, "Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?"36He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?36Who is He, Sir, that I may believe in Him?" he asked.
Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you."37Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.”37Jesus said to him, "You have both seen Him, and He is the one who is talking with you."37And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.37Jesus answered, "You have seen Him; in fact, He is the One speaking with you.""
Then the man said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him.38He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.38And he said, "Lord, I believe." And he worshiped Him.38And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.38I believe, Lord!" he said, and he worshiped Him.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind."39Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.”39And Jesus said, "For judgment I came into this world, so that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind."39And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.39Jesus said, "I came into this world for judgment, in order that those who do not see will see and those who do see will become blind."
Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, "What? Are we blind too?"40Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?”40Those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and said to Him, "We are not blind too, are we?"40And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?40Some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and asked Him, "We aren't blind too, are we?"
Jesus said, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.41Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.41Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, 'We see,' your sin remains.41Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.41"If you were blind," Jesus told them, "you wouldn't have sin. But now that you say, We see--your sin remains.
