The Blessings of Obedience

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
"'Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the LORD your God.1“You shall not make idols for yourselves or erect an image or pillar, and you shall not set up a figured stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the LORD your God.1You shall not make for yourselves idols, nor shall you set up for yourselves an image or a sacred pillar, nor shall you place a figured stone in your land to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God.1Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.1Do not make idols for yourselves, set up a carved image or sacred pillar for yourselves, or place a sculpted stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am Yahweh your God.
"'Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the LORD.2You shall keep my Sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.2'You shall keep My sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary; I am the LORD.2Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.2You must keep My Sabbaths and revere My sanctuary; I am Yahweh."
"'If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands,3“If you walk in my statutes and observe my commandments and do them,3'If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments so as to carry them out,3If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;3If you follow My statutes and faithfully observe My commands,
I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit.4then I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.4then I shall give you rains in their season, so that the land will yield its produce and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.4Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.4I will give you rain at the right time, and the land will yield its produce, and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.

Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land.5Your threshing shall last to the time of the grape harvest, and the grape harvest shall last to the time for sowing. And you shall eat your bread to the full and dwell in your land securely.5'Indeed, your threshing will last for you until grape gathering, and grape gathering will last until sowing time. You will thus eat your food to the full and live securely in your land.5And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.5Your threshing will continue until grape harvest, and the grape harvest will continue until sowing time; you will have plenty of food to eat and live securely in your land.
"'I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove wild beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country.6I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid. And I will remove harmful beasts from the land, and the sword shall not go through your land.6I shall also grant peace in the land, so that you may lie down with no one making you tremble. I shall also eliminate harmful beasts from the land, and no sword will pass through your land.6And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.6I will give peace to the land, and you will lie down with nothing to frighten you. I will remove dangerous animals from the land, and no sword will pass through your land.
You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you.7You shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.7'But you will chase your enemies and they will fall before you by the sword;7And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.7You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword.
Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.8Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall chase ten thousand, and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.8five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall before you by the sword.8And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.8Five of you will pursue 100, and 100 of you will pursue 10,000; your enemies will fall before you by the sword."
"'I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you.9I will turn to you and make you fruitful and multiply you and will confirm my covenant with you.9'So I will turn toward you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will confirm My covenant with you.9For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.9I will turn to you, make you fruitful and multiply you, and confirm My covenant with you.

You will still be eating last year's harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new.10You shall eat old store long kept, and you shall clear out the old to make way for the new.10'You will eat the old supply and clear out the old because of the new.10And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.10You will eat the old grain of the previous year and will clear out the old to make room for the new.
I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you.11I will make my dwelling among you, and my soul shall not abhor you.11'Moreover, I will make My dwelling among you, and My soul will not reject you.11And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.11I will place My residence among you, and I will not reject you.
I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.12And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people.12'I will also walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.12And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.12I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be My people.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.13I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves. And I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect.13I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would not be their slaves, and I broke the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect.13I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.13I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, so that you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to live in freedom."

Punishments for Disobedience

(Leviticus 20:1-9; Deuteronomy 28:15-68; 1 Samuel 15:1-9; 1 Kings 13:11-34)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
"'But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands,14“But if you will not listen to me and will not do all these commandments,14'But if you do not obey Me and do not carry out all these commandments,14But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;14But if you do not obey Me and observe all these commands--
and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant,15if you spurn my statutes, and if your soul abhors my rules, so that you will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant,15if, instead, you reject My statutes, and if your soul abhors My ordinances so as not to carry out all My commandments, and so break My covenant,15And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:15if you reject My statutes and despise My ordinances, and do not observe all My commands--and break My covenant,
then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and sap your strength. You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.16then I will do this to you: I will visit you with panic, with wasting disease and fever that consume the eyes and make the heart ache. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.16I, in turn, will do this to you: I will appoint over you a sudden terror, consumption and fever that will waste away the eyes and cause the soul to pine away; also, you will sow your seed uselessly, for your enemies will eat it up.16I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.16then I will do this to you: I will bring terror on you--wasting disease and fever that will cause your eyes to fail and your life to ebb away. You will sow your seed in vain because your enemies will eat it.
I will set my face against you so that you will be defeated by your enemies; those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even when no one is pursuing you.17I will set my face against you, and you shall be struck down before your enemies. Those who hate you shall rule over you, and you shall flee when none pursues you.17'I will set My face against you so that you will be struck down before your enemies; and those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee when no one is pursuing you.17And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.17I will turn against you, so that you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even though no one is pursuing you."

"'If after all this you will not listen to me, I will punish you for your sins seven times over.18And if in spite of this you will not listen to me, then I will discipline you again sevenfold for your sins,18'If also after these things you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.18And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.18But if after these things you will not obey Me, I will proceed to discipline you seven times for your sins.
I will break down your stubborn pride and make the sky above you like iron and the ground beneath you like bronze.19and I will break the pride of your power, and I will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze.19'I will also break down your pride of power; I will also make your sky like iron and your earth like bronze.19And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:19I will break down your strong pride. I will make your sky like iron and your land like bronze,
Your strength will be spent in vain, because your soil will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of your land yield their fruit.20And your strength shall be spent in vain, for your land shall not yield its increase, and the trees of the land shall not yield their fruit.20'Your strength will be spent uselessly, for your land will not yield its produce and the trees of the land will not yield their fruit.20And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.20and your strength will be used up for nothing. Your land will not yield its produce, and the trees of the land will not bear their fruit."
"'If you remain hostile toward me and refuse to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over, as your sins deserve.21“Then if you walk contrary to me and will not listen to me, I will continue striking you, sevenfold for your sins.21'If then, you act with hostility against Me and are unwilling to obey Me, I will increase the plague on you seven times according to your sins.21And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.21If you act with hostility toward Me and are unwilling to obey Me, I will multiply your plagues seven times for your sins.
I will send wild animals against you, and they will rob you of your children, destroy your cattle and make you so few in number that your roads will be deserted.22And I will let loose the wild beasts against you, which shall bereave you of your children and destroy your livestock and make you few in number, so that your roads shall be deserted.22'I will let loose among you the beasts of the field, which will bereave you of your children and destroy your cattle and reduce your number so that your roads lie deserted.22I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.22I will send wild animals against you that will deprive you of your children, ravage your livestock, and reduce your numbers until your roads are deserted."

"'If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction but continue to be hostile toward me,23“And if by this discipline you are not turned to me but walk contrary to me,23'And if by these things you are not turned to Me, but act with hostility against Me,23And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;23If in spite of these things you do not accept My discipline, but act with hostility toward Me,
I myself will be hostile toward you and will afflict you for your sins seven times over.24then I also will walk contrary to you, and I myself will strike you sevenfold for your sins.24then I will act with hostility against you; and I, even I, will strike you seven times for your sins.24Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.24then I will act with hostility toward you; I also will strike you seven times for your sins.
And I will bring the sword on you to avenge the breaking of the covenant. When you withdraw into your cities, I will send a plague among you, and you will be given into enemy hands.25And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall execute vengeance for the covenant. And if you gather within your cities, I will send pestilence among you, and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.25'I will also bring upon you a sword which will execute vengeance for the covenant; and when you gather together into your cities, I will send pestilence among you, so that you shall be delivered into enemy hands.25And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.25I will bring a sword against you to execute the vengeance of the covenant. Though you withdraw into your cities, I will send a pestilence among you, and you will be delivered into enemy hands.
When I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will be able to bake your bread in one oven, and they will dole out the bread by weight. You will eat, but you will not be satisfied.26When I break your supply of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in a single oven and shall dole out your bread again by weight, and you shall eat and not be satisfied.26'When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven, and they will bring back your bread in rationed amounts, so that you will eat and not be satisfied.26And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.26When I cut off your supply of bread, 10 women will bake your bread in a single oven and ration out your bread by weight, so that you will eat but not be satisfied."
"'If in spite of this you still do not listen to me but continue to be hostile toward me,27“But if in spite of this you will not listen to me, but walk contrary to me,27'Yet if in spite of this you do not obey Me, but act with hostility against Me,27And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;27And if in spite of this you do not obey Me but act with hostility toward Me,

then in my anger I will be hostile toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over.28then I will walk contrary to you in fury, and I myself will discipline you sevenfold for your sins.28then I will act with wrathful hostility against you, and I, even I, will punish you seven times for your sins.28Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.28I will act with furious hostility toward you; I will also discipline you seven times for your sins.
You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters.29You shall eat the flesh of your sons, and you shall eat the flesh of your daughters.29'Further, you will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters you will eat.29And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.29You will eat the flesh of your sons; you will eat the flesh of your daughters.
I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars and pile your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and I will abhor you.30And I will destroy your high places and cut down your incense altars and cast your dead bodies upon the dead bodies of your idols, and my soul will abhor you.30'I then will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and heap your remains on the remains of your idols, for My soul shall abhor you.30And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.30I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and heap your dead bodies on the lifeless bodies of your idols; I will reject you.
I will turn your cities into ruins and lay waste your sanctuaries, and I will take no delight in the pleasing aroma of your offerings.31And I will lay your cities waste and will make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will not smell your pleasing aromas.31'I will lay waste your cities as well and will make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will not smell your soothing aromas.31And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours.31I will reduce your cities to ruins and devastate your sanctuaries. I will not smell the pleasing aroma of your sacrifices.
I myself will lay waste the land, so that your enemies who live there will be appalled.32And I myself will devastate the land, so that your enemies who settle in it shall be appalled at it.32'I will make the land desolate so that your enemies who settle in it will be appalled over it.32And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.32I also will devastate the land, so that your enemies who come to live there will be appalled by it.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out my sword and pursue you. Your land will be laid waste, and your cities will lie in ruins.33And I will scatter you among the nations, and I will unsheathe the sword after you, and your land shall be a desolation, and your cities shall be a waste.33'You, however, I will scatter among the nations and will draw out a sword after you, as your land becomes desolate and your cities become waste.33And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.33But I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw a sword to chase after you. So your land will become desolate, and your cities will become ruins."
Then the land will enjoy its sabbath years all the time that it lies desolate and you are in the country of your enemies; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths.34“Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths as long as it lies desolate, while you are in your enemies’ land; then the land shall rest, and enjoy its Sabbaths.34'Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths all the days of the desolation, while you are in your enemies' land; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths.34Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.34Then the land will make up for its Sabbath years during the time it lies desolate, while you are in the land of your enemies. At that time the land will rest and make up for its Sabbaths.
All the time that it lies desolate, the land will have the rest it did not have during the sabbaths you lived in it.35As long as it lies desolate it shall have rest, the rest that it did not have on your Sabbaths when you were dwelling in it.35All the days of its desolation it will observe the rest which it did not observe on your sabbaths, while you were living on it.35As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.35As long as it lies desolate, it will have the rest it did not have during your Sabbaths when you lived there."
"'As for those of you who are left, I will make their hearts so fearful in the lands of their enemies that the sound of a windblown leaf will put them to flight. They will run as though fleeing from the sword, and they will fall, even though no one is pursuing them.36And as for those of you who are left, I will send faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a driven leaf shall put them to flight, and they shall flee as one flees from the sword, and they shall fall when none pursues.36'As for those of you who may be left, I will also bring weakness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. And the sound of a driven leaf will chase them, and even when no one is pursuing they will flee as though from the sword, and they will fall.36And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.36I will put anxiety in the hearts of those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a wind-driven leaf will put them to flight, and they will flee as one flees from a sword, and fall though no one is pursuing them.
They will stumble over one another as though fleeing from the sword, even though no one is pursuing them. So you will not be able to stand before your enemies.37They shall stumble over one another, as if to escape a sword, though none pursues. And you shall have no power to stand before your enemies.37They will therefore stumble over each other as if running from the sword, although no one is pursuing; and you will have no strength to stand up before your enemies.37And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.37They will stumble over one another as if fleeing from a sword though no one is pursuing them. You will not be able to stand against your enemies.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
You will perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will devour you.38And you shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.38'But you will perish among the nations, and your enemies' land will consume you.38And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.38You will perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will devour you.
Those of you who are left will waste away in the lands of their enemies because of their sins; also because of their ancestors' sins they will waste away.39And those of you who are left shall rot away in your enemies’ lands because of their iniquity, and also because of the iniquities of their fathers they shall rot away like them.39'So those of you who may be left will rot away because of their iniquity in the lands of your enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their forefathers they will rot away with them.39And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.39Those who survive in the lands of your enemies will waste away because of their sin; they will also waste away because of their fathers' sins along with theirs."

God Remembers Those who Repent

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
"'But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors--their unfaithfulness and their hostility toward me,40“But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers in their treachery that they committed against me, and also in walking contrary to me,40'If they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their forefathers, in their unfaithfulness which they committed against Me, and also in their acting with hostility against Me--40If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;40But if they will confess their sin and the sin of their fathers--their unfaithfulness that they practiced against Me, and how they acted with hostility toward Me,
which made me hostile toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies--then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay for their sin,41so that I walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies—if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled and they make amends for their iniquity,41I also was acting with hostility against them, to bring them into the land of their enemies-- or if their uncircumcised heart becomes humbled so that they then make amends for their iniquity,41And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:41and I acted with hostility toward them and brought them into the land of their enemies--and if their uncircumcised hearts will be humbled, and if they will pay the penalty for their sin,
I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.42then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and I will remember my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.42then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and I will remember also My covenant with Isaac, and My covenant with Abraham as well, and I will remember the land.42Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.42then I will remember My covenant with Jacob. I will also remember My covenant with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.
For the land will be deserted by them and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. They will pay for their sins because they rejected my laws and abhorred my decrees.43But the land shall be abandoned by them and enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them, and they shall make amends for their iniquity, because they spurned my rules and their soul abhorred my statutes.43'For the land will be abandoned by them, and will make up for its sabbaths while it is made desolate without them. They, meanwhile, will be making amends for their iniquity, because they rejected My ordinances and their soul abhorred My statutes.43The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.43For the land abandoned by them will make up for its Sabbaths by lying desolate without the people, while they pay the penalty for their sin, because they rejected My ordinances and abhorred My statutes.

Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them or abhor them so as to destroy them completely, breaking my covenant with them. I am the LORD their God.44Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not spurn them, neither will I abhor them so as to destroy them utterly and break my covenant with them, for I am the LORD their God.44'Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I so abhor them as to destroy them, breaking My covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God.44And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.44Yet in spite of this, while they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject or abhor them so as to destroy them and break My covenant with them, since I am Yahweh their God.
But for their sake I will remember the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the LORD.'"45But I will for their sake remember the covenant with their forefathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.”45'But I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD.'"45But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.45For their sake I will remember the covenant with their fathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God; I am Yahweh."
