Jesus Delivered to Pilate

(Matthew 27:1-2)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.1And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. And they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate.1Early in the morning the chief priests with the elders and scribes and the whole Council, immediately held a consultation; and binding Jesus, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate.1And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.1As soon as it was morning, the chief priests had a meeting with the elders, scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin. After tying Jesus up, they led Him away and handed Him over to Pilate.
2"Are you the king of the Jews?" asked Pilate. "You have said so," Jesus replied.2And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”2Pilate questioned Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And He answered him, "It is as you say."2And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it.2So Pilate asked Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" He answered him, "You have said it."
3The chief priests accused him of many things.3And the chief priests accused him of many things.3The chief priests began to accuse Him harshly.3And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.3And the chief priests began to accuse Him of many things.
4So again Pilate asked him, "Aren't you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of."4And Pilate again asked him, “Have you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against you.”4Then Pilate questioned Him again, saying, "Do You not answer? See how many charges they bring against You!"4And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.4Then Pilate questioned Him again, "Are You not answering anything? Look how many things they are accusing You of!"
5But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.5But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.5But Jesus made no further answer; so Pilate was amazed.5But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled.5But Jesus still did not answer anything, so Pilate was amazed.

The Crowd Chooses Barabbas

(Matthew 27:15-23; Luke 23:13-25)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
6Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested.6Now at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked.6Now at the feast he used to release for them any one prisoner whom they requested.6Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.6At the festival it was Pilate's custom to release for the people a prisoner they requested.
7A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising.7And among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas.7The man named Barabbas had been imprisoned with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the insurrection.7And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.7There was one named Barabbas, who was in prison with rebels who had committed murder during the rebellion.
8The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.8And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them.8The crowd went up and began asking him to do as he had been accustomed to do for them.8And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.8The crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do for them as was his custom.
9"Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?" asked Pilate,9And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”9Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?"9But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?9So Pilate answered them, "Do you want me to release the King of the Jews for you?"
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
10knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him.10For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up.10For he was aware that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy.10For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.10For he knew it was because of envy that the chief priests had handed Him over.
11But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas instead.11But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead.11But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to ask him to release Barabbas for them instead.11But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.11But the chief priests stirred up the crowd so that he would release Barabbas to them instead.

Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified

(Matthew 27:24-26)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
12"What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?" Pilate asked them.12And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?”12Answering again, Pilate said to them, "Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?"12And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?12Pilate asked them again, "Then what do you want me to do with the One you call the King of the Jews?"
13"Crucify him!" they shouted.13And they cried out again, “Crucify him.”13They shouted back, "Crucify Him!"13And they cried out again, Crucify him.13Again they shouted, "Crucify Him!"
14"Why? What crime has he committed?" asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, "Crucify him!"14And Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.”14But Pilate said to them, "Why, what evil has He done?" But they shouted all the more, "Crucify Him!"14Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.14Then Pilate said to them, "Why? What has He done wrong?" But they shouted, "Crucify Him!" all the more.
15Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.15So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.15Wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.15And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.15Then, willing to gratify the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. And after having Jesus flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified.

19Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him.19And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him.19They kept beating His head with a reed, and spitting on Him, and kneeling and bowing before Him.19And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.19They kept hitting Him on the head with a reed and spitting on Him. Getting down on their knees, they were paying Him homage.
20And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.20And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him.20After they had mocked Him, they took the purple robe off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they led Him out to crucify Him.20And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.20When they had mocked Him, they stripped Him of the purple robe, put His clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him.

31In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. "He saved others," they said, "but he can't save himself!31So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself.31In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were mocking Him among themselves and saying, "He saved others; He cannot save Himself.31Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.31In the same way, the chief priests with the scribes were mocking Him to one another and saying, "He saved others; He cannot save Himself!

43Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body.43Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.43Joseph of Arimathea came, a prominent member of the Council, who himself was waiting for the kingdom of God; and he gathered up courage and went in before Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.43Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counseller, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.43Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Sanhedrin who was himself looking forward to the kingdom of God, came and boldly went in to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body.
44Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died.44Pilate was surprised to hear that he should have already died. And summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead.44Pilate wondered if He was dead by this time, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He was already dead.44And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.44Pilate was surprised that He was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him whether He had already died.
