The Sons of Aaron

(Leviticus 10:1-7)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1This is the account of the family of Aaron and Moses at the time the LORD spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai.1These are the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when the LORD spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai.1Now these are the records of the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when the LORD spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai.1These also are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that the LORD spake with Moses in mount Sinai.1These are the family records of Aaron and Moses at the time the LORD spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai.
2The names of the sons of Aaron were Nadab the firstborn and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.2These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.2These then are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.2And these are the names of the sons of Aaron; Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.2These are the names of Aaron's sons: Nadab, the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
3Those were the names of Aaron's sons, the anointed priests, who were ordained to serve as priests.3These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he ordained to serve as priests.3These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he ordained to serve as priests.3These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests which were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest's office.3These are the names of Aaron's sons, the anointed priests, who were ordained to serve as priests.
4Nadab and Abihu, however, died before the LORD when they made an offering with unauthorized fire before him in the Desert of Sinai. They had no sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests during the lifetime of their father Aaron.4But Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of Aaron their father.4But Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered strange fire before the LORD in the wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of their father Aaron.4And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest's office in the sight of Aaron their father.4But Nadab and Abihu died in the LORD's presence when they presented unauthorized fire before the LORD in the Wilderness of Sinai, and they had no sons. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests under the direction of Aaron their father.

Duties of the Levites

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
5The LORD said to Moses,5And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,5Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,5And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,5The LORD spoke to Moses: "
6"Bring the tribe of Levi and present them to Aaron the priest to assist him.6“Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister to him.6"Bring the tribe of Levi near and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may serve him.6Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him.6Bring the tribe of Levi near and present them to Aaron the priest to assist him.
7They are to perform duties for him and for the whole community at the tent of meeting by doing the work of the tabernacle.7They shall keep guard over him and over the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, as they minister at the tabernacle.7"They shall perform the duties for him and for the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle.7And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation, to do the service of the tabernacle.7They are to perform duties for him and the entire community before the tent of meeting by attending to the service of the tabernacle.
8They are to take care of all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, fulfilling the obligations of the Israelites by doing the work of the tabernacle.8They shall guard all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, and keep guard over the people of Israel as they minister at the tabernacle.8"They shall also keep all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, along with the duties of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.8And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.8They are to take care of all the furnishings of the tent of meeting and perform duties for the Israelites by attending to the service of the tabernacle.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
9Give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are the Israelites who are to be given wholly to him.9And you shall give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the people of Israel.9"You shall thus give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the sons of Israel.9And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons: they are wholly given unto him out of the children of Israel.9Assign the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they have been assigned exclusively to him from the Israelites.
10Appoint Aaron and his sons to serve as priests; anyone else who approaches the sanctuary is to be put to death."10And you shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall guard their priesthood. But if any outsider comes near, he shall be put to death.”10"So you shall appoint Aaron and his sons that they may keep their priesthood, but the layman who comes near shall be put to death."10And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall wait on their priest's office: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.10You are to appoint Aaron and his sons to carry out their priestly responsibilities, but any unauthorized person who comes near the sanctuary must be put to death."
11The LORD also said to Moses,11And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,11Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,11And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,11The LORD spoke to Moses: "
12"I have taken the Levites from among the Israelites in place of the first male offspring of every Israelite woman. The Levites are mine,12“Behold, I have taken the Levites from among the people of Israel instead of every firstborn who opens the womb among the people of Israel. The Levites shall be mine,12"Now, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the sons of Israel instead of every firstborn, the first issue of the womb among the sons of Israel. So the Levites shall be Mine.12And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn that openeth the matrix among the children of Israel: therefore the Levites shall be mine;12See, I have taken the Levites from the Israelites in place of every firstborn Israelite from the womb. The Levites belong to Me,
13for all the firstborn are mine. When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set apart for myself every firstborn in Israel, whether human or animal. They are to be mine. I am the LORD."13for all the firstborn are mine. On the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated for my own all the firstborn in Israel, both of man and of beast. They shall be mine: I am the LORD.”13"For all the firstborn are Mine; on the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the firstborn in Israel, from man to beast. They shall be Mine; I am the LORD."13Because all the firstborn are mine; for on the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast: mine shall they be: I am the LORD.13because every firstborn belongs to Me. At the time I struck down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated every firstborn in Israel to Myself, both man and animal. They are Mine; I am Yahweh."

38Moses and Aaron and his sons were to camp to the east of the tabernacle, toward the sunrise, in front of the tent of meeting. They were responsible for the care of the sanctuary on behalf of the Israelites. Anyone else who approached the sanctuary was to be put to death.38Those who were to camp before the tabernacle on the east, before the tent of meeting toward the sunrise, were Moses and Aaron and his sons, guarding the sanctuary itself, to protect the people of Israel. And any outsider who came near was to be put to death.38Now those who were to camp before the tabernacle eastward, before the tent of meeting toward the sunrise, are Moses and Aaron and his sons, performing the duties of the sanctuary for the obligation of the sons of Israel; but the layman coming near was to be put to death.38But those that encamp before the tabernacle toward the east, even before the tabernacle of the congregation eastward, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.38Moses, Aaron, and his sons, who performed the duties of the sanctuary as a service on behalf of the Israelites, camped in front of the tabernacle on the east, in front of the tent of meeting toward the sunrise. Any unauthorized person who came near it was to be put to death.

Firstborn Sons Redeemed

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
40The LORD said to Moses, "Count all the firstborn Israelite males who are a month old or more and make a list of their names.40And the LORD said to Moses, “List all the firstborn males of the people of Israel, from a month old and upward, taking the number of their names.40Then the LORD said to Moses, "Number every firstborn male of the sons of Israel from a month old and upward, and make a list of their names.40And the LORD said unto Moses, Number all the firstborn of the males of the children of Israel from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names.40The LORD told Moses: "Register every firstborn male of the Israelites one month old or more, and list their names.
41Take the Levites for me in place of all the firstborn of the Israelites, and the livestock of the Levites in place of all the firstborn of the livestock of the Israelites. I am the LORD."41And you shall take the Levites for me—I am the LORD—instead of all the firstborn among the people of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the cattle of the people of Israel.”41"You shall take the Levites for Me, I am the LORD, instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the cattle of the sons of Israel."41And thou shalt take the Levites for me (I am the LORD) instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel; and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of the children of Israel.41You are to take the Levites for Me--I am Yahweh--in place of every firstborn among the Israelites, and the Levites' cattle in place of every firstborn among the Israelites' cattle."
42So Moses counted all the firstborn of the Israelites, as the LORD commanded him.42So Moses listed all the firstborn among the people of Israel, as the LORD commanded him.42So Moses numbered all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, just as the LORD had commanded him;42And Moses numbered, as the LORD commanded him, all the firstborn among the children of Israel.42So Moses registered every firstborn among the Israelites, as the LORD commanded him.
43The total number of firstborn males a month old or more, listed by name, was 22,273.43And all the firstborn males, according to the number of names, from a month old and upward as listed were 22,273.43and all the firstborn males by the number of names from a month old and upward, for their numbered men were 22,273.43And all the firstborn males by the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those that were numbered of them, were twenty and two thousand two hundred and threescore and thirteen.43The total number of the firstborn males one month old or more listed by name was 22,273.

44The LORD also said to Moses,44And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,44Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,44And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,44The LORD spoke to Moses again:"
45"Take the Levites in place of all the firstborn of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites in place of their livestock. The Levites are to be mine. I am the LORD.45“Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the people of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle. The Levites shall be mine: I am the LORD.45"Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel and the cattle of the Levites. And the Levites shall be Mine; I am the LORD.45Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle; and the Levites shall be mine: I am the LORD.45Take the Levites in place of every firstborn among the Israelites, and the Levites' cattle in place of their cattle. The Levites belong to Me; I am Yahweh.
46To redeem the 273 firstborn Israelites who exceed the number of the Levites,46And as the redemption price for the 273 of the firstborn of the people of Israel, over and above the number of the male Levites,46"For the ransom of the 273 of the firstborn of the sons of Israel who are in excess beyond the Levites,46And for those that are to be redeemed of the two hundred and threescore and thirteen of the firstborn of the children of Israel, which are more than the Levites;46As the redemption price for the 273 firstborn Israelites who outnumber the Levites,
47collect five shekels for each one, according to the sanctuary shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs.47you shall take five shekels per head; you shall take them according to the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel of twenty gerahs),47you shall take five shekels apiece, per head; you shall take them in terms of the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel is twenty gerahs),47Thou shalt even take five shekels apiece by the poll, after the shekel of the sanctuary shalt thou take them: (the shekel is twenty gerahs:)47collect five shekels for each person, according to the standard sanctuary shekel--20 gerahs to the shekel.
48Give the money for the redemption of the additional Israelites to Aaron and his sons."48and give the money to Aaron and his sons as the redemption price for those who are over.”48and give the money, the ransom of those who are in excess among them, to Aaron and to his sons."48And thou shalt give the money, wherewith the odd number of them is to be redeemed, unto Aaron and to his sons.48Give the money to Aaron and his sons as the redemption price for those who are in excess among the Israelites."
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
49So Moses collected the redemption money from those who exceeded the number redeemed by the Levites.49So Moses took the redemption money from those who were over and above those redeemed by the Levites.49So Moses took the ransom money from those who were in excess, beyond those ransomed by the Levites;49And Moses took the redemption money of them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the Levites:49So Moses collected the redemption money from those in excess of the ones redeemed by the Levites.
50From the firstborn of the Israelites he collected silver weighing 1,365 shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel.50From the firstborn of the people of Israel he took the money, 1,365 shekels, by the shekel of the sanctuary.50from the firstborn of the sons of Israel he took the money in terms of the shekel of the sanctuary, 1,365.50Of the firstborn of the children of Israel took he the money; a thousand three hundred and threescore and five shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary:50He collected the money from the firstborn Israelites: 1,365 shekels measured by the standard sanctuary shekel.
51Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons, as he was commanded by the word of the LORD.51And Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons, according to the word of the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moses.51Then Moses gave the ransom money to Aaron and to his sons, at the command of the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.51And Moses gave the money of them that were redeemed unto Aaron and to his sons, according to the word of the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moses.51He gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons in obedience to the LORD, just as the LORD commanded Moses.
