Thanksgiving and Prayer

(1 Corinthians 1:4-9; Colossians 1:3-14; 2 Thessalonians 1:3-4)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
3I thank my God every time I remember you.3I thank my God in all my remembrance of you,3I thank my God in all my remembrance of you,3I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,3I give thanks to my God for every remembrance of you,
4In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy4always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy,4always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all,4Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,4always praying with joy for all of you in my every prayer,
5because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,5because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.5in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now.5For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;5because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.
6being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.6And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.6For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.6Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:6I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
7It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me.7It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.7For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of grace with me.7Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.7It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because I have you in my heart, and you are all partners with me in grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and establishment of the gospel.
8God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.8For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.8For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.8For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.8For God is my witness, how deeply I miss all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
9And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,9And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment,9And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment,9And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;9And I pray this: that your love will keep on growing in knowledge and every kind of discernment,
10so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,10so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,10so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ;10That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;10so that you can approve the things that are superior and can be pure and blameless in the day of Christ,
11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God.11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.11having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.11Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.

Paul's Trials Advance the Gospel

(James 1:2-8)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
12Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel.12I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel,12Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel,12But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;12Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has actually resulted in the advance of the gospel,
13As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.13so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ.13so that my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else,13So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;13so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard, and to everyone else, that my imprisonment is in the cause of Christ.
14And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.14And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.14and that most of the brethren, trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment, have far more courage to speak the word of God without fear.14And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.14Most of the brothers in the Lord have gained confidence from my imprisonment and dare even more to speak the message fearlessly.
15It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.15Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will.15Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will;15Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:15To be sure, some preach Christ out of envy and strife, but others out of good will.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
16The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.16The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.16the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel;16The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:16These do so out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel;
17The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.17The former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment.17the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment.17But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.17the others proclaim Christ out of rivalry, not sincerely, seeking to cause me anxiety in my imprisonment.
18But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,18What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice,18What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice,18What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.18What does it matter? Just that in every way, whether out of false motives or true, Christ is proclaimed. And in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice
19for I know that through your prayers and God's provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.19for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance,19for I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,19For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,19because I know this will lead to my deliverance through your prayers and help from the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
20I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.20as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death.20according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.20According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.20My eager expectation and hope is that I will not be ashamed about anything, but that now as always, with all boldness, Christ will be highly honored in my body, whether by life or by death.

To Live is Christ

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.21For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.21For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.21For me, living is Christ and dying is gain.
22If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know!22If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell.22But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose.22But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.22Now if I live on in the flesh, this means fruitful work for me; and I don't know which one I should choose.
23I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far;23I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.23But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;23For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:23I am pressured by both. I have the desire to depart and be with Christ--which is far better--
24but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.24But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.24yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.24Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.24but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for you.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
25Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith,25Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith,25Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith,25And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;25Since I am persuaded of this, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith,
26so that through my being with you again your boasting in Christ Jesus will abound on account of me.26so that in me you may have ample cause to glory in Christ Jesus, because of my coming to you again.26so that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again.26That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.26so that, because of me, your confidence may grow in Christ Jesus when I come to you again.

Be Worthy of the Gospel

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
27Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel27Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,27Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;27Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;27Just one thing: Live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or am absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind, working side by side for the faith that comes from the gospel,
28without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved--and that by God.28and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God.28in no way alarmed by your opponents-- which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God.28And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.28not being frightened in any way by your opponents. This is a sign of destruction for them, but of your deliverance--and this is from God.
29For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him,29For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake,29For to you it has been granted for Christ's sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,29For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;29For it has been given to you on Christ's behalf not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him,
30since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.30engaged in the same conflict that you saw I had and now hear that I still have.30experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.30Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.30having the same struggle that you saw I had and now hear that I have.
